The Queen to visit London

Her Majesty Queen Sonja of Norway attends the presentation of the Kjell Nupen Memorial Grant on Thursday 8 October 2015.

The event takes place at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) premises in London, from 17.30 until 20.30.

Kjell Nupen Memorial Grant

Earlier the same day, at 12:15, Queen Sonja will meet with the press at Riba for questions about the Queen Sonja Print Award and Kjell Nupen Memorial Grant.

Queen Sonja will present the Kjell Nupen Memorial Grant to the Danish artist Adam Saks.

Kjell Nupen Memorial Grant is awarded for the first time this year. The prize is a collaboration between Queen Sonja Art Foundation and printmaker Bill Goldston at Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE) in New York.

The Memorial Grant will be presented every second year in commemoration of the Norwegian artist Kjell Nupen, and will be awarded to emerging graphic artists/printmakers from the Nordic countries. The board of the Queen Sonja Art Foundation is responsible for selecting the recipient. The announcement of this year's recipient, Adam Saks, took place on 5 September, the birthday of Kjell Nupen.

Kjell Nupen Memorial Grant comprises an educational stay at ULAE’s workshop and a cash prize of NOK 50,000.

Graphic artist Adam Saks studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin.

The Foundation

The main purpose of the HM Queen Sonja Art Foundation is to create interest in graphic art and stimulate young artists to develop both the craft and the expression. The foundation will present the Queen Sonja Print Award every other year. The winner will receive a prize of NOK 400.000, and a residency at the Ateljé Larsen workshops in Helsingborg.

The Finish printmaker Tiina Kivinen was first to receive the award in Oslo on 14 June 2012.
