The Crown Prince visiting Burundi
His Royal Highness The Crown Prince is visiting Burundi as goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The visit, which starts on 29 October, will be focusing on the UN millennium goals.
The millennium goals cannot be reached unless there is lasting peace in countries formerly torn by conflict. Peace and security are crucial to achieving sustainable development. In Burundi today, poverty represents one of the greatest threats to lasting peace and stability.
Many fear that old conflicts will be rekindled unless there is improvement in the living conditions and everyday lives of ordinary people. The many refugees returning home after the war pose a great challenge. Re-integration and the rebuilding of local communities are fundamental steps in the transition from relief to development. The UN Peacebuilding Commission and Fund supports Burundi in its efforts to implement its strategy for peace.
The Crown Prince will be visiting several projects that are working to promote the peace process, and thereby lay the foundation for a stable peace in Burundi.

Welcoming the Restauration to the US
His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon, along with a couple of thousand attendees, welcomed the sloop Restauration to New York, exactly 200 years after the vessel carrying Norwegian emigrants arrived in the United States. In 1825, they crossed the Atlantic in search of a new and better life. This voyage is regarded as the beginning of organised emigration from Norway.
Met with Governor Walz in Minnesota
Minnesota is one of the states in the United States where a large proportion of the population has Norwegian ancestry. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon is therefore also visiting this state and its largest metropolitan area, Minneapolis–Saint Paul, during his trip to the United States to mark the 200th anniversary of Norwegian emigration to the US.
