Norwegian Travel Workshop

On Monday Her Majesty Queen Sonja attended the opening of the Norwegian Travel Workshop in Kristiansand, where she presented the organisation’s distinguished service award. The award was presented for the first time this year.

The Norwegian Travel Workshop is a trade fair that brings together international tour operators and representatives of the Norwegian tourism industry. Tourism businesses that plan to participate in the international market have the opportunity to present their services and enter into agreements for the upcoming season. The objective of the trade fair is to focus on Norway as a travel destination rather than to promote individual companies.

Distinguished service award

The distinguished service award for 2007 was presented to Karl Mjelva of the Union Hotel in Geiranger and to Edmund Harris Utne of Hotel Ullensvang in Hardanger – two veterans of the Norwegian tourism industry.

The Norwegian Travel Workshop’s award for distinguished service will be presented to Norwegians or professionals from abroad who have made a lasting contribution to, and sought to promote joint activities within, the Norwegian tourism industry.

An annual event

Innovation Norway arranges this annual event, which is now in its 35th year. A total of 350 representatives from 23 countries had the opportunity to network with a similar number of representatives from the Norwegian tourism companies. This year the trade fair was held in Kristiansand over a three-day period. Destination Sørlandet served as a partner for Innovation Norway.
