Her Royal Highness The Crown Princess and His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales attended a banquet held by Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg in connection with an international conference on preserving the rainforests.
The conference is being held in Oslo on Thursday, and Prince Charles The Prince of Wales is among the participants.
The Oslo Climate and Forest Conference 2010
The conference brings together heads of state, ministers of the environment, and experts from countries around the world who are involved in the efforts to preserve the worlds rainforests. Norways conference delegates include Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and Minister of the Environment and International Development Erik Solheim.
The purpose of the conference is to establish an interim partnership scheme for reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries. This partnership will seek to ensure the rapid implementation of a global, coordinated effort to preserve the worlds tropical forests, in keeping with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The Crown Princess as host
Crown Princess Mette-Marit is hosting Prince Charles during his stay in Norway. The British heir to the throne was met at Oslo Gardermoen Airport by Crown Prince Haakon, who after a brief meeting with Prince Charles flew to Shanghai, China, where he will attend Norway Day at EXPO 2010.
Congratulations are presented today from His Majesty King Harald to His Excellency Mr Egils Levits, President of the Republic of Latvia.
World Heritage at Vega
In 2004, UNESCO inscribed the Vega Archipelago on the World Heritage List. Today His Royal Highness The Crown Prince was in attendance to open the new Vega Archipelago World Heritage Centre – Norway’s first authorised centre of its kind.
