The biography of Prince Sverre Magnus

His Highness Prince Sverre Magnus was born on 3 December 2005 at Rikshospitalet University Hospital in Oslo. The Prince is third in line of succession to the throne, after his father, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon, and his sister, Her Royal Highness Princess Ingrid Alexandra.

The Prince was christened in the Palace Chapel by Bishop Ole Kristian Kvarme on 4 March 2006.

His godparents are Her Majesty Queen Sonja, Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece, Princess Rosario of Bulgaria, Mr Espen Høiby, Mr Bjørn Stensland and Ms Marianne Gjellestad.

Prince Sverre Magnus was confirmed in Asker Church on 5 September 2020, after receiving instruction with the Asker congregation.

School attendance

In autumn 2011 Prince Sverre Magnus began attending Jansløkka Elementary School in Asker. From 2014 to 2020 the Prince attended Oslo Montessori School.

Prince Sverre Magnus began attending Elvebakken Upper Secondary School in Oslo in the autumn of 2021, enrolled in the Information Technology and Media Production programme.

He graduated from upper secondary school in the spring of 2024. Final-year students, families, and teachers gathered in the Oslo Concert Hall for the school’s graduation ceremony on Tuesday, 18 June.

The Prince’s 18th birthday

Prince Sverre Magnus turned 18 on Sunday, 3 December 2023. On 1 December, Their Majesties The King and Queen hosted a luncheon at the Royal Palace in honour of the Prince’s coming of age.

The luncheon was held in the Small Ceremonial Hall at the Palace and roughly 70 guests attended. The guest list for the official luncheon included family members, godparents and representatives of the Norwegian authorities and youth organisations.

Leisure interests

The Prince is particularly interested in photography and film. He enjoys skiing, and especially alpine skiing, and shares the joy of water sports with the rest of his family.

Official duties
