For many decades, the American artist Judy Chicago (b. 1939) has established herself as one of the most important artists of our time. With a series of groundbreaking works, she has been an advocate for women's rights and justice and equity. Chicago works in a whole range of media and has for several decades expressed herself in printmaking and paper-based formats.

The exhibition at the Queen Sonja Art Stable consists of 40 art works spanning from 1965 to 2020. The vast majority are being presented in Norway for the very first time and will showcase both iconic and lesser-known works from Chicago's artistic oeuvre.

Technically, the selection provides insight into a range of printmaking techniques, some drawings, and a cast paper work of a butterfly, one of Chicago's iconic images. The exhibition is dedicated to Chicago's paper-based art, generously loaned from the Jordan Schnitzer Family Foundation in addition to one work from Her Majesty Queen Sonja's private collection.

The exhibition is staged in connection with Judy Chicago receiving the QSPA Lifetime Achievement Award 2026, which will be presented at the National Museum in a separate event.
