Tom Sandberg in New York
On 11 February 2007 Her Royal Highness The Crown Princess attended the opening of an exhibition of photography by Tom Sandberg in New York.
It is the first time that a Scandinavian artist has had a solo exhibition at the renowned gallery P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, an affiliate of the Museum of Modern Art. The exhibition displays 40 of Sandberg’s photographs from his 20-year-long career.
After viewing the exhibition, the Crown Princess made the following statement to the media:
- This exhibition is an important event in Norwegian contemporary art. The photographer Tom Sandberg is the first Scandinavian to have his own exhibition at P.S.1. I have followed Sandberg and his work over several years. The acknowledgement he has received here in New York makes me proud and happy on Norway's behalf.

Welcoming the Restauration to the US
His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon, along with a couple of thousand attendees, welcomed the sloop Restauration to New York, exactly 200 years after the vessel carrying Norwegian emigrants arrived in the United States. In 1825, they crossed the Atlantic in search of a new and better life. This voyage is regarded as the beginning of organised emigration from Norway.

Met with Governor Walz in Minnesota
Minnesota is one of the states in the United States where a large proportion of the population has Norwegian ancestry. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon is therefore also visiting this state and its largest metropolitan area, Minneapolis–Saint Paul, during his trip to the United States to mark the 200th anniversary of Norwegian emigration to the US.
