State Visit from Vietnam
President Nguyen Minh Triet and Mrs Tran Thi Kim Chi of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam paid a formal State Visit to Norway on 5 and 6 June. The President and First Lady came to Norway at the invitation of His Majesty King Harald.
Their visit commenced with an official welcoming ceremony in the Palace Square.
After the welcoming ceremony, the President visited the Storting (Norwegian national assembly), where he was received by Mr. Torbjørn Jagland, President of the Storting. Her Majesty Queen Sonja and Mrs Tran Thi Kim Chi attended a guided tour of the new opera house in Bjørvika.
An official luncheon was held at the Royal Palace, after which the King and Queen and the President and First Lady were taken to Akershus Castle for a wreath-laying ceremony at the National Monument.
The day concluded with a gala dinner at the Royal Palace.
Day 2
On the morning of 6 June President Nguyen Minh Triet had official talks with Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg at the Prime Minister’s Office. Afterwards the President, together with His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon, departed for the offices of Telenor, at Fornebu, where they attended a seminar entitled “Business Forum Vietnam and Norway”. Subsequently, the President paid a visit to the Supreme Court.
Her Majesty The Queen accompanied Mrs. Tran Thi Kim Chi to the Bygdøy Peninsula, where they were taken on guided tours of the Viking Ships Museum and the Open Air Folk Museum.
Prime Minister Stoltenberg hosted an official luncheon at Akershus Castle in honour of the Vietnamese Presidential couple. King Harald and Queen Sonja and the Crown Prince and Crown Princess were all in attendance.
The State Visit was concluded on Friday, with a cruise on the Oslo Fjord on board the Royal Yacht, K/S Norge.

Welcoming the Restauration to the US
His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon, along with a couple of thousand attendees, welcomed the sloop Restauration to New York, exactly 200 years after the vessel carrying Norwegian emigrants arrived in the United States. In 1825, they crossed the Atlantic in search of a new and better life. This voyage is regarded as the beginning of organised emigration from Norway.

Met with Governor Walz in Minnesota
Minnesota is one of the states in the United States where a large proportion of the population has Norwegian ancestry. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon is therefore also visiting this state and its largest metropolitan area, Minneapolis–Saint Paul, during his trip to the United States to mark the 200th anniversary of Norwegian emigration to the US.
