The Global Fund

This morning Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mette-Marit gave the opening address at a breakfast meeting for business leaders hosted by the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Jonas Gahr Støre and the Minister of International Development Erik Solheim.

The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria will hold a conference in Oslo on 5-7 March 2007 to focus on what the fund has achieved to date and to identify the needs for the next five-year period.

Norway is a major contributor to the fund, which thus far has provided financial support to 450 programmes in 136 countries – for a total of USD six billion. The fund was established five years ago and is headquartered in Geneva.
