Will continue as ambassador
His Royal Highness The Crown Prince will continue in his capacity as Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The agreement was signed today when the Crown Prince granted an audience to the Administrator of UNDP, Helen Clark.
Crown Prince will continue in his capacity as Goodwill Ambassador for the organisation for another two years, up to May 2018. The Crown Prince will assist UNDP in its efforts to end poverty within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Ambassador since 2003
In 2003, Crown Prince Haakon was appointed Goodwill Ambassador for UNDP with a particular focus on the UN Millennium Development Goals and the effort to cut global poverty in half by 2015. He has visited numerous countries on behalf of UNDP, including Timor-Leste, Haiti, Nepal, Tanzania, Cambodia, Sierra Leone, Guatemala, Burundi, Mongolia and Botswana. Over the next two years the Crown Prince will be continuing his work in this area.
Helen Clark, Administrator of UNDP, states that the Crown Prince is a compelling advocate for UNDP’s efforts to end poverty, owing to his active involvement in global development issues.

Welcoming the Restauration to the US
His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon, along with a couple of thousand attendees, welcomed the sloop Restauration to New York, exactly 200 years after the vessel carrying Norwegian emigrants arrived in the United States. In 1825, they crossed the Atlantic in search of a new and better life. This voyage is regarded as the beginning of organised emigration from Norway.
Met with Governor Walz in Minnesota
Minnesota is one of the states in the United States where a large proportion of the population has Norwegian ancestry. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon is therefore also visiting this state and its largest metropolitan area, Minneapolis–Saint Paul, during his trip to the United States to mark the 200th anniversary of Norwegian emigration to the US.
