A new Royal House of Norway
The election of Prince Carl as Norway’s new king in 1905 marked the beginning of the new Norwegian monarchy. The family was an important factor in the choice of the Danish prince: he was married to a British princess, and they had a two-year-old son. The line of succession was secured. The King took the name Haakon. The little boy was given the name Olav.
