Reception and Security

Reception and Security is responsible for receiving visitors, dealing with the mail, and operating the Palace's switchboard. The Section is also responsible for security patrolling and surveillance of the alarm systems.

In earlier times, pages served as the personal attendant and guard of a person of rank; now they man the reception of the Royal Palace. They serve as Palace wards who always receive and see off the members of the Royal Family when they pass through the main gate of the Palace. They also receive all guests who enter the Palace, either via the main gate or through the reception area.

Reception and Security is responsible for daily security patrollig, deployment and surveillance of alarm systems, and ensuring that the proper flags are flying above the Palace at all times.

The reception at the Royal Palace is manned 24 hours a day, all year round, and is responsible for operating the Palace switchboard. The Section is also responsible for mail and messenger services, which are primarily carried out by orderlies. An orderly is a soldier whose duties include carrying orders. The orderlies are from His Majesty The King’s Guard, and several serve on the Section at all times.

The Royalty Protection Unit is responsible for safeguarding the safety of His Majesty The King as well as the other members of the Royal Family. The service is administered by the Norwegian Police Security Service (PST), which is the highest authority in matters relating to the safety of the Royal Family.

Organisation
